We made Smart Beat for parents like us.
I'm Nate Ruben, one of the founders of Smart Beat. In 2012, our first child was born four weeks premature, and my wife and I had the bittersweet experience of seeing him tied to monitoring machines for his first days of life.
Little did we know, that was just the beginning.
Knowing that our son was at high risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, my beautiful wife woke five or six times a night for the next six months to check for breathing. The lack of sleep triggered a severe episode of postpartum depression.
An electrical engineering student at the time, I knew there had to be a better way. This became my senior project, and later my master's thesis.
But, however long and difficult the journey, it was worth it because we know that now, through Smart Beat baby breathing monitor, parents like you can spend less time worrying and more time nurturing your children and yourselves.
